There are corners of the Valsassina that, despite being within easy reach, or rather, leg reach, are little frequented and, to most, little known despite the fact that they offer views that are truly awe-inspiring. One of these corners is the Alpe Chiaretto. Be careful, however, to fully enjoy this special place, it is highly recommended to choose a clear and windy day, one in which the sky is clear, free of clouds. It is on days like these that Alpe Chiaretto reveals all its beauty, offering visitors a unique and unforgettable spectacle, a vantage point that should be reached at least once in a lifetime. To get there, one must climb to Alpe Giumello, the starting point for the short and easy walk of about 15-20 minutes. The walk starts from the large car park and continues along the dirt road where you will also find signs for Sant'Ulderico and the loop (anticlockwise) of Monte Muggio. When the signposts tell you to turn left to cross the meadow, we continue into the green meadow, until we descend, losing little altitude. From here we can see the pond, the stables and a little further on, with a very short ascent, the Alpe Chiaretto cross in front of the imposing and majestic Monte Legnone (2610 metres). When you are here, you will have no words for the magnificence of the panorama.
Here one has the feeling of standing on the prow of a green ship ploughing through the great sea of mountains of the Valsassina and Valvarrone. In front stands the Legnone, but the visual journey does not stop there. Moving the gaze to the right, Pizzo Alto and Monte Rotondo draw a chain of peaks that culminates in the village of Premana, set like a nativity scene among the mountains. Further behind, Monte Colombana and Melasc, while in the background of Pian delle Betulle, the peaks of Pizzo Varrone and Pizzo dei Tre Signori can be glimpsed. The view continues sliding down towards the Valsassina and then back up to the Grigne massif, an undisputed icon of the area. Turning our gaze back to Monte Legnone and turning left this time, we find the Legnoncino with Ortenalla nestled in the larches, which opens the way to a wide view of the Alpine arc: from Cima Lago to Pizzo Stella, passing Pizzo di Ermet, Piz Por, Sasso Canale, Pizzo Ledù and Pizzo di Rabbi. The journey among the peaks continues with Pizzo Cavregasco, Pizzo Roggione, Cima Est del Sass Castel, Monte Duria and Pizzo Paglia. Behind us, the green meadows of Giumello with the summit of the mountain of the same name complete the picture of this natural paradise.
