Among the most iconic peaks in Lombardy, the Resegone dominates the landscape with its jagged line, made famous by Alessandro Manzoni and imprinted on the memory of anyone who has even just brushed the Lecco shore of Lake Como. But it's not just a peak to observe: the Resegone is a mountain to be experienced, and among the numerous routes that lead to its summit, the one that ascends the Bobbio Canal (Trail No. 10) is perhaps the most spectacular and challenging.
It is not an excursion for everyone, but for those with experience and a steady footing, it offers total immersion in a wild and rocky environment, where the silence of the mountain blends with your racing heart.
Recommended period: spring-autumn, avoid with snow or after rainfall

The climb begins at the Piani d'Erna, easily reachable from Lecco by cable car or on foot. From the Bocchetta d'Erna, take path no. 10. It's initially easy and well-marked, climbing through meadows and woods. After the last house, the path narrows, enters the heart of the mountain and begins to get tougher. You'll pass rocky sections requiring the use of hands, and face an initial stretch equipped with a chain.
This first part serves almost as a filter: those who continue, know that they are entering terrain where attention must be maximised. And not only for oneself: the moving stones can be a danger to those following, or to any chamois descending from above. In this stretch, the Wearing a helmet is not excessive precaution., but a responsible choice.
Reached the entrance of the Bobbio Canal, you find yourself immersed in a narrow gorge between the limestone ramparts of the Resegone. The chains secured on the rock help to overcome some easy climbing sections, but it is the slope and the nature of the terrain (sandy, unstable) that require the utmost caution.
The actual climb lasts about 15 minutes, but it's intense, both physically and mentally. Every handhold must be tested, every step thought out. It's a stretch where the mountain shows itself for what it truly is: austere, unpredictable, fascinating.
From the top of the couloir, you emerge onto the Saddle of Bobbio, altitude 1,740 m, where you can finally breathe and enjoy a wide panorama.
From here, the path moves to the opposite slope, opening up the view towards Morterone and the Imagna Valley. You walk between continuous ups and downs, in a landscape of ridges, rock teeth and grassy flows. The path is still exposed in places, but the view of the summit cross getting closer and closer gives new energy.
Overcome Manzoni and Stoppani Points, the path joins with path no. 9, coming from the Canalone Comera. A few more minutes and you reach the Azzoni Refuge, located below the Punta Cermenati, the highest point of the Resegone.

Climbing to the summit cross of Resegone is always an exciting experience, but reaching it via the Canalone Bobbio gives it a special flavour. From here, the view encompasses Lecco, the lake, the Grigna, the Legnone, and the Lombardy plain. If the air is clear, the peaks of Monte Rosa, the Monviso, and even the’Ligurian Apennines.
It's reward time. One of those moments that makes the sweat, the verticality, and stepping out of your comfort zone worthwhile.
The descent from Canalone Bobbio is Strongly not recommendedtoo steep, too unstable. The ideal return is via the path 1, which starts exactly from Rifugio Azzoni and descends towards the cable car or, via detours, to the Piani d'Erna. Alternatively, you can complete a circuit by returning from Morterone descending to Giuff Pass, for longer but less steep routes.
Path 10 through the Bobbio Ravine is an itinerary technical, physical, but extremely rewarding. It's the right choice for those who know the mountains, are familiar with rocky environments, and wish to experience the Resegone in one of its most authentic and wild forms. It's not just a climb: it's a dialogue with stone, with verticality, and with oneself. And like all true endeavours, it leaves its mark.
