Among the green folds of Mount Magnodeno, just above the Lecco district of Maggianico, hides a small jewel: Camposecco. A perfect destination for those who want a break in nature without undertaking a demanding hike. The path to the Camposecco hut is short, simple and immersed in the forest - ideal for those approaching the mountains for the first time, but also for those seeking a moment's respite among the trees.
An accessible, yet authentically mountain walk
The itinerary starts from Via alla Fonte, in the heart of Maggianico. Already from the first steps, the noise of the town gives way to birdsong and the roar of the Tuf stream. One takes a cobbled road that soon turns into a path: here, among stone steps, silent crosses and benches that invite one to pause, the journey into the green begins.
The forest is dense, cool, fragrant: a real panacea in the warmer months. Beware, however: the route is not equipped with fountains or water points, so it is essential to set off with a good supply, especially in summer.
As you ascend, steep sections alternate with gentler ones, in an up and down that makes the walk pleasant and never boring. After about 20 minutes, a small clearing welcomes the walker with a secluded hut - a perfect spot to catch one's breath and watch as the forest barely opens up to let in a little light.
It continues to Baite di Piazzo (507 m), where the famous Rotary Trail. But our path continues, and in about ten minutes we arrive at the heart of the destination: the Rifugio Camposecco (608 m a.s.l.), surrounded by a wide grassy plain.
A hidden terrace on Lecco
Once there, you can sit at the tables of the refuge, greeted by the friendliness of the managers - the “capanatts”, as they say in these parts - and enjoy the view: a discreet but fascinating panorama of Lecco and its lake, framed by the surrounding hills, opens out from the plain.
It is one of those places that don't stand out loudly, but can reward you with silence, simplicity and authenticity. Perfect for a picnic, a chat with friends, or simply to listen to the wind in the foliage.
The descent takes place along the same Path 29, but for the more curious, Camposecco can also be reached from Somasca (Vercurago), offering the possibility of future variants.
