Table of Contents

La Vittoria Hut, a cosy refuge located at Alpe Giumello, is nestled on the southern slopes of Monte Muggio, at an altitude of 1799 metres. This corner of mountain paradise is easily accessible by car, via an asphalt road, or on foot through a network of paths that wind from the surrounding villages, connected by the SP 66.

Car route

From Valsassina
For those coming from Valsassina, the route is straightforward. Take the SP 62 to Taceno, then head for the SP 67 in the direction of Margno and Casargo. Once you reach Codesino, a hamlet of Casargo, turn left onto the SP 66 towards Vendrogno. Passing through Indovero and Narro, you will find the road leading to the large Alpe Giumello car park on your right. Those who prefer to continue on the SP 66 will reach Mornico, where the road begins to descend towards Bellano.

From Bellano
Arriving from Bellano, leave the SP 36 and take the SP 62, which descends towards Lake Como. From there, follow the SP 72 along the eastern shore of the lake, then turn onto the SP 66. The road, rather narrow and winding, climbs through hamlets and woods. After passing the turn-off for Mornico, continue to the crossroads leading to Alpe Giumello.

Parking at Giumello is subject to a charge during peak seasons (from 15 June to 15 September and from 20 December to 6 January) and on public holidays. The ticket costs €1 for an hour or €3 for the entire day.

Walking tour

Once the car is parked, the walk is short and easily manageable. From the car park, following the slightly downhill road, you will reach Capanna Vittoria in a few minutes, located at 1538 metres. The elevation change is only 12 metres downhill, and the journey time is about 5 minutes. Along the way, you will pass a green barrier and an Enel cabin before reaching the refuge.

Path no. 6 from Mornico

Another interesting itinerary starts from Mornico. Here, after parking the car in the large car park at the entrance to the village, follow path no. 6 in the direction of Alpe Giumello. The itinerary is quite varied and crosses small villages and wide meadows, with a route that develops between gentle climbs and steeper sections. The first part of the walk, which begins along Via S. Sassi, is characterised by narrow alleys and picturesque views, including a small waterfall and ancient stone houses.

Having passed the washhouse and a series of bends, you reach “Ca dül Zibülì”, where the path becomes steeper. Arriving at a fork, you can choose to continue towards Alpe Giumello, following the old mule track that winds through meadows and woods. After a stop in front of a small shrine, the route continues on well-marked paths, with signs for Monte Tedoldo and Alpe Giumello.

A Journey Through History and Nature

Along the path, the panorama changes continuously, offering breathtaking views of Lake Como and the surrounding mountains. The tranquillity of the woods and the fresh mountain air make this route an immersive experience in nature. Along the way, you'll also find traces of history, such as the small mountain chapel and evidence of the partisans' presence in these valleys during the Second World War, which add a touch of historical charm to the hike.

Another fascinating aspect of this area is its vibrancy. Despite its isolated location, Alpe Giumello is still a well-frequented place, especially during the summer season, when the huts are occupied by shepherds or by those seeking refuge from the heat of the plains.

Conclusions

Whether you arrive by car or on foot, once you reach the Vittoria Hut, time seems to slow down. This refuge represents not only a resting point for those tackling the hike, but also an opportunity to immerse yourself in a landscape that retains its natural beauty intact. The excursions in the area are an invitation to discover a part of Lombardy that preserves its rural and mountainous charm, far from mass tourism, but rich in history and spectacular panoramas.

A perfect experience for those seeking mountain peace and authentic contact with nature.
