Located at the foot of Mount Magnodeno, Camposecco is a perfect destination for a short hike in the countryside. Starting from the Lecco district of Maggianico, the route leads quickly and easily to the refuge of the same name, a quiet corner where you can rest and enjoy a breathtaking view over the city of Lecco and the lake. This excursion, within everyone's reach, is also ideal for those approaching the mountains for the first time or for those seeking a walk in the woods during the warmer months of the year, considering that the vegetation provides excellent shade.
The path to Camposecco is also suitable for beginners, with a low altitude difference and a walk time of no more than 45 minutes. However, although it is an easy walk, it is always important not to underestimate the mountain. The hike is mostly uphill, alternating between steeper and flatter sections, but does not present any particular difficulties. There are no water sources along the route, so it is always best to start well prepared with a bottle of water.

When you arrive at the refuge, in addition to appreciating the hospitality typical of mountain facilities, you will enjoy a spectacular view of the city below and the lake, which give you a feeling of peace and serenity.

The starting point for this hike is in Via alla Fonte, in the Maggianico district of Lecco. The path, which is easily reached by both public transport and car, begins with a cobbled road that climbs gently along the Tuf stream. Shortly after, it crosses a small bridge and continues on a flight of steps leading to a cross, an ideal spot for a short break and to enjoy the surrounding landscape. From here, the path enters the forest, where the landscape becomes more intimate, with alternating uphill stretches and flat areas.
At the first fork encountered, follow the turnoff to the right, which leads straight towards the destination. After walking for about twenty minutes, you come to a clearing in the forest with a small hut, where you can take a short break before continuing. The path continues on level ground for a stretch, skirting the building, and then climbs again through the trees.
After about 10 minutes, you reach Baite di Piazzo, a landmark at 507 metres above sea level. Here, you cross the Sentiero Rotary, but continue to climb, following the signs for Camposecco. A final ascent, which does not take more than 10 minutes, finally leads to the plain that opens up in front of the hut.
At 608 metres, the hut stands out on the horizon, where you can finally enjoy an extraordinary view of Lecco and its lake, with the mountains reflected in the water. A true corner of paradise, just a stone's throw from the city.
For the return journey, you can choose to retrace the same path as the outward journey, which is always well marked. Another possibility is to start from the opposite side, which can be reached from Somasca, a hamlet of the municipality of Vercurago. Again, the panorama will not disappoint.
All in all, this excursion is perfect for those who wish to immerse themselves in nature without having to tackle overly demanding itineraries, but with the certainty of being able to enjoy a unique view and a mountain experience on a human scale. It is an excellent choice for a day out, allowing you to rediscover contact with nature and discover one of the most intimate beauties of the Lecco area.
